Scientific Status of Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy – Talk

Ales Zivkovic, MSc, PTSTA(P) and Mark Widdowson, PhD, MSc, ECP, TSTA(P) will present the current scientific status of transactional analysis (TA) psychotherapy at the online EATA 2021 Research Conference.

The talk will consist of existing research evidence for TA psychotherapy, what it means for the TA community, and how this relates to established criteria for empirically supported therapies.

They will also identify strengths and weaknesses of the research evidence, gaps in the literature, and current research into the effectiveness of TA.

The aim of the overview is to examine the current scientific status of Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and specifically the evidence base for the effectiveness of TA psychotherapy.

A method of literature search of academic databases and TA specific journals was conducted, using both digital and manual screenings, and the data was thematically organised.

There seems to be sufficient evidence to make claims that TA is evidence-based psychotherapy for several disorders and that it is effective in both individual and group therapy formats.

The talk will take place online on 17 July 2021.
